This project comprises an extension to, and refurbishment of, an existing residential property in Southampton.
The layout of the proposed development has been informed by the location of the trees to the western boundary which are protected by a TPO. The extension is effectively a separate building linked to the existing at first floor level. In this manner the integrity of the existing building is fully retained and the impact on the existing windows is minimised.
The proposed building is 3-storeys tall, contains 6 flats, and is capped with a flat roof to minimise its height. Although the existing building appears 3 storeys from the road, the land slopes and from front to back so the building is 4 storeys to the garden side. In terms of scale, the proposal remains subservient and respectful of the existing building.
The materials chosen are taken from a modern palette, with a combination of render and timber cladding.
