The site stands within the commercial heart of Fareham and comprises the existing chapel of the former United Reform Church which has been deconsecrated and is no longer used as a place of worship. However, the Listed Building has a direct frontage onto West Street which has been rejuvenated with a new shopping centre and in view of the chapel’s poor state of repair it has been converted to a commercial use.
The scheme comprises the refurbishment of the existing chapel building and the addition of a new, modern extension. The new extension comprises two open plan floors suitable for retail or leisure use.
The Practice were responsible for the detailed design of the refurbishment works and the extension. Great care was taken over the selection of materials and colours for the building fabric. As many of the existing features as possible were retained.
After handover the fit out was undertaken by others as a separate contract to convert the space to licensed premises.
