The Enterprise Centre provides small scale and start-up accommodation for 80 fledgling businesses and provides then with social and support facilities.
The buildings are located along the site boundary to create a courtyard format and are two and three storeys tall, in two separate blocks. The main reception is in the three-storey block which faces the site's entrance. It contains all of the business support and social facilities, together with an external terrace overlooking a tree-lined bridleway.
The second block includes workshop units together with the balance of the office units.
The buildings are clad in buff brick and light grey metal panels to provide a relaxed elevation to the courtyard and also to minimise maintenance. The roofs are overlapping mono-pitches which enable light to filter through to the corridors below.
The project required various environmental studies to ascertain the potential effect upon local wildlife and landscape. Additionally, the minimal capacity available in the existing surface water drainage meant a series of ditches, seasonal drains and a balancing pond were required. This has improved the biodiverse wildlife habitat by the creation of seasonal wetlands.
